Three Sizes of Fish: Gambling and Swimming with Barack Obama (For Bill Clinton)

Hey Bill, because I feel we're close, how can you say I roll the dice with my choice that now goes beyond you? Why is it so easy to undermine my evolution just because I've moved on? While the world keeps changing at a pace we haven't even caught up with, you scare me and all of us, that we must move at the pace you set when I too rolled the dice with you when zealots cast their stones--yes, I stood with you. I defended your right to make mistakes, in all respects. How many people died in Rwanda and Somalia?

Squeezing Artists and Freedom of Expression

As artists, our freedom of expression is always dependent on our financial resources. Yes, great art is often born out of necessity and limited resources, but sometimes the resources CAN be limited on purpose by those who disagree with our art, and inherently our freedom to express ourselves. In creating our works, we have the dual role of essentially advocating and defending our rights, for most of the time, meaningful works of art seem disagreeable and offensive to those who encounter it for the firs time.

S.O.S. for Asian American Theater Company, SAVE OUR STORIES

Hello out there, is anyone listening? We have to save our theatre, it not, where are we to tell our stories? Let's not wait too long.

Here is the press release in today's SFgate.com with pictures of myself directing the prolific Ms. Jeannie Barroga's play BANYAN in its world premiere at AsianAm Theater in 2005. I also performed my solo show SARIMANOK TRAVELS there in 2006. I have hope, our theater will rise again, not by magic, but by the community's efforts.

Imelda Marcos, Syphilis and Royal Filipinas

Karl Wilson of Agence France Press interviewed Imelda Marcos recently. Wilson asked the Imeldific herself if there was anything she regretted about her governing days.

This is Imelda Marcos' reply.

"Yes, I would have changed the country's name. Why should this country carry the name of a Spanish king who died of syphilis?"

So that's what it's all about-- the human rights violations, disappearances and corruption, they were efforts in decolonizing the Philippines and creating self designed identity.

RACISM as CHARACTER TRAIT in Desperate Housewives

If we were to attribute the dialogue in question from Desperate Housewives to character development, then the writers of Desperate Housewives are merely putting a mirror to society--that indeed, people talk like this about people of other races. My students just pointed out the song from the musical Avenue Q, "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist, Sometimes." If you YOUTUBE it, there's loads of high school productions of it you can watch. It makes it own point.

ABC 's Clueless Meaningless Apology: or ask the Doctors of Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton Who Went to Med School in Manila

"The producers of ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ABC Studios offer our sincere apologies for any offense caused by the brief reference in the season premiere. There was no intent to disparage the integrity of any aspect of the medical community in the Philippines. As leaders in broadcast diversity, we are committed to presenting sensitive and respectful images of all communities featured in our programs."

The statement above is what you can buy with lawyers on a $10 million retainer.

Desperate Writers on Desperate Housewives

“Okay, before we go any further, can I check those diplomas? Because I would just like to make sure they are not from some med school in the Philippines."

--the character SUSAN played by Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives, ABC, Sept 30, 2007)

This line reeks of irresponsible writing by desperate writers of a sitcom that claims to espouse the cause of real American women. These writers insult the sense of humor and intelligence of their audience by serving them up a racially demeaning script.
